Fashion That Goes From Day to Night

Don’t miss out on a single moment by having to change outfits between work and a fun night with friends. Go easily from office fashion to ooh, la la! with these quick tips.

Layering is a great way to prepare for a quick change. Make sure your wardrobe houses at least one suit jacket and/or cardigan; these top layers are perfect for day-to-night quick switches. Wear the jacket over a fun, colorful blouse for your work attire, then, when it’s time for happy hour, simply take it off. If you’re eager to sport your new mini dress to dinner, do it by grabbing a flowy skirt to layer on top for work hours. The skirt will hide the bottom half of your dress and transform the top into a tucked-in blouse. Business on the outside; party on the inside.

When trying to change the tone of your outfit, accessories are your best friends. You can make the most boring pantsuit perfect for a night out with just a few fun additions. The key is to prepare ahead and do a little purse packing. Business attire is often designed in neutral colors, so transition the attire to night by adding a splash of color: Bright neons and big bold jewelry will catch eyes and distract from your office attire. In the morning, pack a statement necklace, bracelets, and a bright clutch in your purse for easy accessory access after five. Shoes can also have a huge effect on your look. For work, try wearing Tieks ballet flats. They’re fashionable, comfortable, and fold up easily to fit into your purse when it’s time to switch to heels.

Next, do a quick flip on your makeup. Darkening your daytime makeup is an easy way to amp up your look without starting from scratch; simply pack eye shadow, eyeliner, and lipstick. Top off your daytime eyes with a layer of a darker shadow, then thicken your eyeliner to complete the look. Be wary of adding mascara as layering coats usually results in clumping. For your lips, sport a nice berry shade. If you want that bright red pop for your lips, go easy on the eyes so as not to look overdone.

For an easy hair transformation, try putting mousse in towel-dry hair, twist length-wise and then twist into a simple bun at the base of the head (think cinnamon roll). At five, literally let down your hair for easy waves that styled themselves while you worked.
