Nitsa’s Launches New Resort-Wear Lines

Just in time for those spring break getaways and cruises, Nitsa’s is launching a new resort-wear collection in their Winston-Salem boutique.

Resort-wear lines that Nitsa’s will carry include Persifor, Roberta Roller Rabbit, Barbara Gerwit, HIHO, and Dizzy Lizzie.

Persifor offers bright and whimsical prints in casual dresses, tunics, palazzo pants, and accessories like handbags, totes, and hats. Their machine-washable silky custom fabric features vibrant hues of blues, greens, and citrus. Persifor was founded by Alexandra Thompson, a Parsons New School for Design graduate, who has worked in design for such iconic brands as J. Crew and Lilly Pulitzer before launching her own line.

Roberta Roller Rabbit is a travel-inspired lifestyle brand, offering exotic, sophisticated yet affordable leisurewear and accessories by designer Robert Freymann. Roberta Roller Rabbit is an offshoot of Freymann’s namesake label and was inspired by a fable of a magical rabbit that she found on a piece of discarded fabric in India. All of her pieces are hand-block printed, created and produced by Freymann with artisans in India. Popular prints include monkeys, elephants, and fish and complete the signature whimsical spirit that has become synonymous with the brand.

Barbara Gerwit has designed a resort collection that is made up of hand-blocked, hand-beaded embroidered tunics and tops, and other related accessory items. Casual printed knit dresses and tops have now been added to this growing collection. Her light and airy fabrics are made of brightly colored cotton lawn, cotton Swiss voile, and laundered linen that has been constructed for easy care and washability at affordable prices. Prints include bright florals, pineapples, flamingos, and seashells.

HIHO Clothing is inspired by life in the Caribbean with casual clothing including linen shirts and sweaters, beach dresses, printed cover-ups, and soft cotton t-shirts. HIHO clothing is based on a tropical lifestyle and influenced by the pristine environment of the Caribbean and island life. Clothing is soft, designed to be functional, colorful, and comfortable in a chic island way. The casual, cool, and elegant designs and original prints are the hallmark of the HIHO brand.

With timeless, modern patterns and prints, the Dizzy-Lizzie line is a designer collection for the modern day woman. Founded in 2006 by designer Liz Lighton, these timeless dresses, pants, jackets, and “Tizzie” shirts are redefining the way women dress. Lighton’s passion for prints is shown through every detail in her clothes, such as the ribbon trims, stretched fabric, cuffed sleeves, and inner cotton linings. The collection features dresses, tunics, and tops in bold and colorful stripes, prints, and florals that are perfect for a cruise or a stay at an island resort.

Mother-of-the-Bride Trends for 2016

While her wedding day may be one of the most important days in a bride’s life, it is also a very special time for her mother. And as mother of the bride, moms want a dress that will

Dress by Marisa Baratelli

make them look and feel just as special as their daughters.

Gone are the days of boring, understated dresses or suits for the mother of the bride (MOB); today’s trends include dresses with exquisite details, sophisticated silhouettes, and figure-flattering styles. Here are some of the MOB trends that are hot this season:

Lace

Lace isn’t just for the bride anymore. New styles for the MOB include dresses with lace overlays that add a touch of romance but still look sophisticated. And lace doesn’t have to be just white or cream—lace in vibrant colors like royal blue or fuchsia make the patterns of the dress really stand out.

Pastels

Spring into style with pastels! The newest color trends on the bridal runways were shades of pale pinks, mint greens, seafoam blues and pale yellows. Pastels are a beautiful alternative to basic black, especially for a spring wedding.

Neutrals

Neutral shades of champagne, beige, or taupe look elegant and up-to-date and come in various styles and lengths. If you do choose to go with a neutral shade, be sure to try on the dress before buying to see if the shade complements your skin tone. It may take a few tries in different hues to find the right shade for your coloring.

Bateau Necklines

Bateau necklines or “boatneck” style can be very flattering, balancing out the figure. The cut elongates the neck and shows off an elegant collarbone.

Cap Sleeves

If mom doesn’t want to bare all with a sleeveless dress, cap sleeves offer the best of both worlds. They offer some coverage but are a nice alternative to long sleeves, especially for a summer wedding. Cap sleeves on a dress create a look that is elegant and classy.

Sheer Sleeves

Yet another alternative for the MOB who doesn’t want to bare her arms and shoulders is this new trend—dresses with long, sheer sleeves. Sheer sleeves create the illusion of bare arms while still letting the MOB feel covered. These are a great choice for fall or winter weddings.

A-line Skirts

For MOBs that want a shorter, flouncy look, A-line styles are extremely figure-flattering. A fuller skirt hides a multitude of figure flaws and is especially flattering for pear-shaped figures.

What Are the Latest Bridal Trends for 2016?

2016 Bridal Trends

From lace to pale pinks to bridal separates, the 2016 spring runways were full of trendy details that many modern brides will love. And Nitsa’s was recently featured in Southern What are the latest bridal trends for 2016?Bride and Groom magazine in a spread on some of these new styles. Here is what’s new this season in wedding gowns.

Luxurious Lace, Front to Back

Lace is no longer reserved for the traditional bride. Today, bridal design houses are offering a wide array of lace patterns from delicate to daring. But the best part is that the lace no longer stops at the bustline—the details reserved for the décolletage, sleeves, and most importantly, the backs have become the pinnacle of the design. You can find these new lace creations from designers such as Amsale, Monique Lhuillier, and Anna Maier—all available at Nitsa’s

Convertible Dresses and Overskirts

One of the hottest trends right now is a bridal dress that serves as two-in-one. A ceremony train gives the illusion of a ballgown but can be removed to reveal a modern fitted reception dress! Romance meets allure with chic and sheer overskirts this season from designers Amsale and Anna Maier.

Bridal Separates

Mix and match bodice and skirt to create a bridal look that fits your style with new bridal separates. Crop tops paired with long skirts were all the rage on the bridal runway for spring—these combinations let the bride show off just a sliver of skin on her wedding day for a look that’s modern and comfortable. Another trend in separates is the two-piece bridal suit; it pairs trousers and jackets for a more casual wedding look.

A Bateau Neckline

A bateau neckline can be a flattering fit on many body types and is a classic, sophisticated style. Dresses with bateau necklines can balance out the body and create an hourglass shape for a sexy, beautiful fit.

The Dipped V-Neckline

Not quite as risqué as a plunging neckline but not as innocent as a sweetheart neckline, the dipped V-neckline adds just the right touch of drama to a dress.

Blush-Colored Dresses

A barely-there touch of color in shades of pale pink and rose are a pretty alternative to classic white. Also popular this spring are subtle tones of taupe, nude, and silver.

Dressing for Holiday Parties in 2015

Parties, parties, parties! ‘Tis the season for holiday occasions, whether they’re family dinners, black-tie affairs, or office celebrations. But what does the FashioNitsa wear for all these events? Unless it’s an ugly sweater party, she does not pull out the Rudolph-and-Frosty-bedecked knitwear. Read on for our favorite looks this holiday season. What are the best looks for the holiday party season?

Look #1: Office Holiday Party

Company parties can be very risky, and not just from a fashion perspective. The trick is to be celebratory but still professional, both in terms of behavior and in terms of dress. Since many holiday parties start right after work, you can find a great solution with Nitsa’s specialty day-into-night outfits and dresses. To transition seamlessly from work into the evening event, bring some bling to amp up your work outfit. Shine, which is always popular at the holidays, is especially strong this year. Try shoes, a bag, or a scarf embellished with glitter to keep your look professional but still fun.

Look #2: Festive Casual

Get-togethers with family and friends are rarely formal affairs, but the holidays call for some sense of occasion and fun. Nitsa’s recommendation: start with a pair of our on-trend jeans, and build the rest of your outfit around this casual base. Jewel tones are often flattering around the face and are especially hot this season. Metallics give a real sense of occasion, as do a pair of glam shoes or a jeweled clutch.

Look #3: Formal or Black Tie

Whether it’s a winter wedding or a glittering New Year’s Eve party, a formal party is the time to pull out all the stops. If you’re feeling daring, you can go full-length and unleash your inner diva, or go for slightly less formality with the perfect cocktail dress. This season, icy pastels are dominating the runways, but if that doesn’t suit your skin tone, you can always go deep with beautiful jewel tones. This time of year, emerald and ruby are especially popular, but not together!

Wearable Technology and Fashion Tech Accessories

Have you ever seen a picture of the first digital watch/calculator combination? It was huge, bulky, and black, and it sat on the wrist like Darth Vader’s favorite ornament. Wearable technology has come a long way since the 1980s—with beautiful jewelry and accessories masking an array of useful tools. During the intervening decades, the miniaturization of computers has enabled a boom in wearable technology; a 2014 Global Web Index report found that fully 71 percent of Millennials (people aged 16 to 24) were interested in wearable technology. From activity trackers to Bluetooth headsets to fully-functioning computers, this trend seems like it’s here to stay.

The ubiquity of smartphones and tablets has driven an increase in attractive accessories for them. It seems that bracelets and earrings may be optional, but smartwatches and earbuds are not. People’s insistence on accessing their technology at all times has naturally led to a desire to look better doing it; Apple’s white earbuds are fine for jogging, for instance, but they don’t exactly make your officewear pop. And who wants a boring phone case when this two-by-four-inch rectangle provides a perfect blank canvas for self-expression?

At Nitsa’s, we proudly offer products from Triple C, a leader in fashionable wearable technology. Triple C was founded in 2005 with a line of stylish accessories, but they saw the growing trend of wearable technology and switched their focus in 2010. Through their own product line and private-label partnerships with such fashion brands as Kate Spade and Coach, Triple C’s tech accessories make a statement. Be a part of the future with Nitsa’s and Triple C!

It’s a Tracksuit… It’s Business Casual… It’s Athleisure!

Once dismissed as a flash-in-the-pan fad, athleisure clothing is now called “the trend that won’t die” by the fashion press. Athleisure—a word that combines athletics and leisure —refers to athletic clothing that can be worn in non-athletic settings. Signs of the athleisure trend have dominated the runways for the past several seasons, from cashmere hoodies to Chanel sneakers, and entire clothing lines are now devoted to this fast-growing market.

One reason for athleisure’s rise in popularity is recent technological gains in the textile industry. Many fabrics can now stretch in some places and drape in others, creating a more sophisticated, polished look. Others conform to the wearer’s curves for a body-conscious style. Many of Nitsa’s newest lines, like those from Lyssé and Herve Leger, use these athletic fabrics to create their signature styles.

Another reason for the continued popularity of athleisure clothes is our national preoccupation with fitness. Increasingly, physical fitness is seen as a whole lifestyle choice, not just a weekend hobby, and people want their clothes to show their commitment to health. With many athleisure choices, a wearer can easily step outside the office for a brisk walk during lunch and then return to her desk without bringing a change of clothes.

Finally, with their focus on function along with form, athleisure clothes tend to be far more comfortable and practical than traditional casual wear. Stretchable material offers more comfort and flexibility, whether people are sitting at a desk or circulating at a party. Come into Nitsa’s to be a part of the athleisure revolution!

How to Tie Your Scarves!

Why Scarves Are a Must-Have in Your Wardrobe!

The leaves are starting to turn, and the mercury is dropping; now is the time to find your how to tie your favorite scarvesperfect scarf!

Scarves this season feature rich colors and bold designs. The infinity scarf is still popular, and can now be found in a variety of styles from athletic to elegant. Long, thin scarves can help to elongate your body and add a touch of style. Large silk squares, à la Hermès, remain classic, while art-print silks offer a modern take on the look. As the weather gets even colder, look for scarves to get larger and cozier: think pashmina-style capes. Some designers are even offering blanket-scarves!

Here are some ways we have seen scarves on the runways this fall:

The L: With a long scarf, wrap one half around your neck and leave it hanging down the back, while the other end hangs down the front.

The Cowgirl: Fold a medium-sized square scarf in half on the diagonal. Let the wide end of the triangle cover your throat, and wrap the two ends around the back of your neck and back to the front. Tie loosely.

The Lovebite: Fold a small square scarf into a tube shape and tie (not too tightly) around your neck with the ends on the side. It’s très Francais!

The Belt: With a long silk scarf, pull it through the belt loops in your jeans and make it a belt. It’s a great way to showcase an art print!

The Classic: To show off a large silk square, fold it in half on the diagonal and arrange it over your shoulders with the widest part of the triangle lying across your back. It’s a beautiful and confident way to show off one of the seasons hottest accessories!

Change is Good…When It Comes to Alterations

French women have a reputation for being relentlessly, terrifyingly chic. Even in jeans and a t-shirt, they often look like they are ready for a trip down the runway. Are French jeans and t-shirts really that much better than their American counterparts, or is something else going on? In fact, there is one secret that French women know, and at Nitsa’s, we know it too; the secret to looking chic is a perfect fit, and the secret to getting a perfect fit is custom tailoring. That’s why we offer on-site alterations at both our stores. As our founder, Nitsa Bambalis, said: “Fashion is one part style and three parts fit.”

When you see photoshoots in magazines or advertisements, the clothes always fit perfectly, right? Wrong—at least not at first. Those clothes have been altered and pinned in place to be as flattering as possible. Even the mannequins in many clothing stores are not immune. If you walk around the back of the mannequin, you’ll likely see that the clothes have been pulled and pinned to eliminate gaps and emphasize shape.

Unfortunately, we can’t walk around with binder clips on the backs of our clothing; that’s why tailoring is so important. Every woman is shaped differently; waists are lower or higher; hips are bigger or smaller, and busts come in all shapes and sizes. To get the perfect fit, buy clothes that fit the largest part of your body, and then have the rest tailored to fit. For instance, if you have wide hips and a narrow waist, most pants and skirts that fit your hips will gap at the waist. Solve this by having the waist taken in with darts, creating a shapely silhouette. If a shirt is too boxy, have the side seams taken in, and add darts to fit your exact contours.

Walk down any street in Paris, and you will likely see at least one tailor. It can be harder to find good alterations in the United States, but when you shop at Nitsa’s, your perfect fit is right inside the store. Our seamstresses have a combined 180 years of experience and an average of 30 years apiece. Let us help you find your perfect fit today!
